I can't tell you how many times I have sat in traffic for AT LEAST an extra hour on my way to Healdsburg on the weekend because of the work going on in the Petaluma area. Even though the work isn't normally taking place when I am traveling, the roads are still a mess because the crews don't just pick up their toys and trucks and reopen the sections on which they are working when they leave for the day.

Cal Trans tells us that widening Highway 1 will save just a few minutes a day -- during commute hours -- in each direction. Meantime, for at least a couple of years, we will have to endure a version of what happened yesterday. Very few of us driving today will live long enough to make up that lost time in increments of just a few minutes per day.

Finally, lest people either did not know or have forgotten, below is what Cal trans promised the disruption caused by the Pedro Point bridge replacement project would cause. Can anyone truthfully say these estimates are even close to being accurate? Even in the same universe as accurate??

New Detour Adds up to 30 sec for Most Trips – One Exception is Longer in PM Peak Hour. I have heard that the same methodology would be used to widen the highway with additonal work being done during non-commute hours. They should put the frontage road in the quarry before they even think of doing any more work on that stretch of highway, that way there would be an alternate route during construction.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7481238059942383326.post-32887305695392452892015-08-03T22:00:48.776-07:002015-08-03T22:00:48.776-07:00Laughing reading these comments.
