Advisement - Aerial Survey in Pacifica to be conducted next week

During the week of August 27, 2012,  The Remote Sensing Laboratory (RSL) is a Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) owned facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, situated on Nellis Air Force Base.  The facility is operated by  National Security Technologies, LLC, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman.   
 

The RSL is working on a joint venture Research and Development (R&D) project.  The joint venture, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), is in support of the DNDO Aerial and Maritime Standoff Detection (AMSD) technologies project named the Airborne Radiological Enhanced-sensor System (ARES). 
 
The ARES project proposes flying the DOE/NNSA owned helicopter with specialized radiological detection testing equipment at multiple altitudes over selected areas of San Francisco, Oakland,  and Pacifica.  The project entails collecting background radiation readings taken by the RSL Aerial Measuring System (AMS) detection testing equipment.  Approved data derived from the survey tests, will be shared with local and state officials.
